NAAM YOGA, STRESS AND THE BRAIN FAQ SHEET

HOW IS NAAM YOGA THERAPY DIFFERENT FROM OTHER FORMS OF YOGA? NAAM Yoga is recognized by the Yoga Alliance as a Yoga Therapy. Naam Yoga teaches that thoughts precede feelings that precede physical consequences in every aspect of life, particularly in health and disease. Every aspect of Naam Yoga is designed to target imbalances existing in the spiritual realm before they are manifest as chronic disease. Work is done at the interface of our bio-energetic and neurochemical networks through Sound –vibration. It is used to relieve chronic and emotional pain, manage stress/burnout, reduce anxiety/ depression and restore neuroimmunoendocrine balance.

HOW DOES NAAM YOGA THERAPY BALANCE THE ANS? The ANS plays a dominant regulatory role on vital organs and glands and as such, imbalances in the ANS are the root for the manifestation of all disease. What is not commonly understood is that the spiritual body is connected to the physical body through the ANS. Therefore the ANS is a great key to addressing disease at its causality level and achieving a permanent cure. The way we think, act, feel and speak influences the vibratory frequency of our spiritual body and by extension the balance in our ANS. Depending on these factors, the ANS stays balanced and transmits positive vibrations to our physical body causing pain/disease or positive vibrations causing balance/well-being. NAAM provides the key to cleansing the spiritual body and balancing the ANS. Through the application of mantra (sacred sound), mudras or hand seals and specific breathing exercises NAAM is able to break the stress cycle that imbalances the ANS. As such it addresses the behavioral habits and toxic emotions that trigger imbalances in the ANS.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE? We are cognitively predisposed to keep doing the same things over and over, to run laps in the same dead-ended rat race rather than seek new means of doing things. This is one of nature’s “safety mechanisms” which can only be bypassed by the act of repetition. Behaviors become habitual faster in stressed people making it hard for them shift back to goal-directed, positive behaviors, through patterns that yield healthier outcomes. The minimum time to bypass that cycle is 40 to 120 days, Regular and consistent repetition allows the brain to override the “safety mechanism” and negative patterning which influences the psyche, life memories and projections. A consistent, prescribed mantra, breath and mudra practices, done consistently 3 – 11 minutes per day for 40 – 120 days, can effectively neutralize painful or traumatic physical and emotional and mental experiences and replace them with a genuine sense of “flow” and “well-being”. The parasympathetic nervous system is actively engaged in strengthening and promoting ANS equilibrium.
